What actually moves your lorry premium.
- Lorry age — past roughly 10 years, insurers tend to offer only Third Party Only or TPFT. For older lorries, TPO usually wins the math anyway.
- Attachments — a hood, box body, tailgate or crane raises the premium, and every attachment must be declared or a claim can be rejected.
- Nature of business — a lorry hauling construction material and one delivering pastries do not price the same. Insurers rate the trade, not just the vehicle.
- Hire or reward use — hauling goods for other people costs more than hauling your own, and carries a higher excess. Declare it right — it protects your claims.
- Your NCD — capped at 20% for commercial vehicles, fully transferable, and we verify it ourselves so switching insurers is painless.
- Driver profile — young, elderly or newly-licensed drivers trigger YEID additional excess with most insurers. Which insurer matters: the amounts differ.
- Workshop plan — approved workshops are cheaper and handle accident reporting on the spot; for working lorries it's rarely worth paying for more.
