What WICA actually pays out.

Compensation limits are set by MOM — these apply from 1 November 2025:

Death

$91,000 – $269,000 paid to the family, computed from the employee’s age and earnings.

Permanent incapacity

$116,000 – $346,000 at 100% incapacity, prorated by the assessed incapacity percentage.

Medical expenses

Up to $53,000 or 1 year from the accident — whichever is reached first — plus medical leave wages while recovering.

WICA questions, answered straight.

Is WICA insurance compulsory in Singapore?
Yes — under the Work Injury Compensation Act, you must buy WICA insurance for all employees doing manual work (any salary) and non-manual employees earning $2,600 a month or less. Skipping it is an offence: fines up to $10,000, up to 12 months’ jail, or both. Foreign and local workers count equally. Details on MOM’s WICA pages.
How much does WICA compensation pay out?
Three types of compensation, with limits set by MOM (raised from 1 Nov 2025): death — $91,000 to $269,000; permanent incapacity — $116,000 to $346,000 (prorated by incapacity percentage); medical expenses — up to $53,000 or 1 year from the accident, whichever comes first. Medical leave wages are also payable while the employee recovers. Current figures: MOM — types of compensation.
What is not covered under WICA?
WICA covers employees under a contract of service — it does not cover the self-employed, independent contractors, domestic workers or uniformed personnel. Claims can also be rejected where the injury was self-inflicted, from fighting the employee started, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or simply not work-related. If your team includes subcontractors, talk to us — the right cover for them is a different policy.
